Hair Updos & Styles for Prom

One of the ways to make even the simplest dress look amazing - is by treating yourself to a really pretty up-do hairdo.

These are the sorts of styles that you see in prom pictures where girls are wearing their hair up in a bun, chignon or in the half up, half down style that seems to be increasingly popular.

Some of these styles are easy to create and there's plenty of You Tube videos showing how to create the perfect updo hairstyle. Some are offered by haircare companies to promote their products, some are done by young people to promote their websites and some are just for fun.

Whatever - they're certainly worth looking at for inspiration for elegant updo hair styles .

Prom Dresses in Plus Sizes

There's an increasing number of stores that stock prom dresses in larger sizes.

The designs of prom dresses that you will see sitting in a retailer’s window may look great in the window, but will not always flatter you to the fullest extent.

There are certain styles of plus size prom dresses that will catch shoppers eye and draw that customer into the store, that doesn’t mean that you need to buy such dresses without consulting the other styles first.

The color of your plus size prom dress should match your date’s tux, or at least complement it. This is something that many shopping for plus size prom dresses forget to address. Often they think the date will be smart enough to ask about the color he should pickup, which is of course untrue, he’ll be lucky to get his shoes rented by the day of the prom. He is a normal high school guy, not a fashion consultant, so be sure to take imitative and find out about this tux in advance so you can plan to purchase a dress that will match it.

There are no hidden tricks in shopping for plus size prom dresses other then to watch out for deals, and buy what you like.

Some of the smartest dress shoppers are the ones that buy a dress they could wear again to another formal occasion. You don’t want to have to get stuck with a more formal style of dress that you wear once and forget about. Be sure to give some thought to what else your gown could be used for before you buy it, after all it’s your money that is being spent, and if it’s your money, then spend it wisely.

Your prom should be something that you remember for the rest of your life for good reasons, not dress horror stories.

This should be your time to shine, and finding your perfect plus size prom dress can make this dream a reality.

Fashions for 2007

Prom dresses for 2007 are promising to be more beautiful than ever!

With softer hairstyles coming in for both wedding and proms, with some beautiful loose updos , this more feminine look is IN.

Black and White
Contrasting monochromatic colours of black and white were seen on the catwalk in Paris, London and New York - so expect these to be gracing the stores shortly. Worn with black tights and shades, this is the cool look for a hot summer.

Short and Bright

The catwalk sported some stunning short dresses - particularly noteable are designs by Dolce & Gabbana, Charles Deacon, Antonio Berardi and Chanel.

There was lots of bright yellows on the catwalks this season - also metallic dresses in golds and silvers.

Florals

Small or large prints are both popular - bright or more subtle colouring will work.

The Romantic Look

There's a real Jane Austen look about some of the soft dresses this season. Chiffon is layered to create a wonderful soft look, puff sleeves and tulle abound too. There's also a dramatic edge

Accessories

Skip the necklaces, there's little jewellery on the catwalk - as the dresses can speak for themselves.

The perfect corsage - choosing the perfect flower for prom night

Your prom is a one-time event where everyone will be wanting to look their best. It's easy to overlook the "small" things that will make all the difference - like the flowers for your date.

Guys - don't forget that you're expected to take some flowers to your date - preferably in the form of a corsage that matches her dress and that you'll need to order them in plenty of time.

You might want to check with your date what sort of flowers she would like - although corsages are traditional, small bouquets are becoming more popular.

If you're considering making a wrist corsage, you can find ideas on how to make a wrist corsage at AC Moore or Flower Arrangement Advisor for a step by step approach - although this is designed for wedding flowers - I'm sure you can adapt it.

To see pictures of wrist corsages for dances or proms, visit Creative Necessities florists - you can choose exactly what you want online and either copy it at home or order it.

If you're not sure what sort of corsage to order, make sure you check the colour with your date to ensure that it will match her prom gown.

Ladies - don't forget to order a lovely boutonnière from your florist for your date.

Jennifer Lopez & Jessica Simpson Gowns raise money for charity

Do you fancy getting hold of a designer dress worn by a celebrity - it may not be as out of reach as you think.

Two dresses worn by J Lo have sold at auction for a combined $6,900 to raise money for HIV and AIDs charities. A Dolce & Gabbana dress J Lo wore in November was bought for $3,700, while a Versace frock she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards went for $3,200.

However, it was Jessica Simpson who fetched the most money for one item of clothing. The Donna Karan dress she wore to the VH1 Divas concert in Las Vegas, Nevada, last year sold for $4,400.

From November, fashion events company 7th On Sixth auctioned more than 6,000 pieces, including some celebrity items, on website eBay for the charities. Why not bookmark their site for future reference - if nothing else, it'll be interesting to see the dresses and how much they're sold for.
